Keeping Busy

Here's a few things I've been working on lately, but first, another cat picture (I know everyone is getting tired of these). The thing is that Calvin just cracks me up, and I'd hate not to share i t with you all! He is a big fan of small spaces, and anytime they are available, he crawls into things like grocery bags, backpacks, baskets, even his carrier that we use to take him to the vet. This particular box is a lot smaller than it looks, and somehow he crammed his fat little tummy in there and managed to get his head around to the front. It took him a little while, but once he was there, he stayed there for a few hours! He just makes me laugh- I really think he lost some brain matter when they took out his eye...

Our friends Ali Busath and Jed Goodell are getting married today. Here's a cake I made for Ali's bridal shower. It was supposed to be her colors (brown and blue) but the blue turned out a little more green than I hoped. I think the problem is that I'm using regular food dye, and not cake decorating dye, and they kind of act different in the icing. Anyway, it was three layers of white cake with blackberry filling. The flowers on top are carnations, which I thought were pretty and gave it a bit of an old fashioned look, despite the polka dots.

I'm also doing the flowers for their wedding, so last night we whipped up a few things, and here they are. These are mostly for my mom, because I'm not sure anyone else really cares! The sticks are curly willow, and it's in there because her colors are blue and brown, like I said. We ended up having to do fake hydrangeas due to a last minute crisis, but I think they look alright, and put together with all the roses and salal, I think it turned out nicely. The first one is Jed's corsage, and then her bridal bouquet.
I put a few pearl beads in there for accent because she's wearing pearls, and classed it up a bit since there are sticks in there and all...
