Justin turns 28

Justin's birthday was June 12th, but due to my computer not working and being out of town, I'm just now getting them up. I think it was a fun day! We went Outback and had mint chocolate cake and ice cream for dessert. Ollie stole the lid to the ice cream when we weren't looking, and was in hog heaven.

That cake sure does look tasty! I see that there is some white underneath the chocolate frosting. What it is and how do you do something like that?

I could be wrong Jenny but I think that is what they call "dirty icing" on the cake. Or maybe they like the white and chocolate frosting. Dirty frosting is like a first icing layer on the cake. It makes the top layer prettier and more smooth.

Actually, it's a mint icing layer. It's green and mint flavored. I was going for an Andes mint effect, and it turned out awesome! It wasn't hard, I just made a mint buttercream, and a chocolate frosting, and slathered them on one after the other.

That actually sounds amazing! I LOVE Andes mints! This may be silly, but I've never actually heard of using more than one layer of icing on a cake. The icing is totally my favorite part though, so I don't know why I've never done it! Hmm.. Doug just had his birthday last month so I only have 11 months to figure this out.
