Blueberry Eyes

There was a song on a lullaby tape we used to listen to called Blueberry Eyes. It's from a musical, but I'm not sure which one. I sing it to Ollie now.
It goes like this:
Blueberry eyes
and two lips red-ripe cherries,
Apricot cheeks,
Watermelon seed hair.
Sleep now my darling, my soon to be beauty,
Sleep, dearest harvest,
in bloom everywhere.
This boy definitely has blueberry eyes!
Two perfectly ripe blackish blue blueberries.

We bought this picture from Target today because we saw it, it was cheap, and it looks just like Ruby! Crooked teeth and everything. It's going in Ollie's room.
I have never bought mass-produced cheesy and cheap art before, but this had to be an exception.
We are suckers and are completely overly obsessed with our dog.
At least we admit it.
And who wouldn't love this sweet girl?!

So many memories and so many good songs we use to sing. Sooo glad the legacy continues. There is nothing better than a freshly bathed baby and a rocking chair and a good lullaby...

Just came across this because I was wondering if anyone remembered that song. It was from a musical version of Gone with the Wind. I saw it in London way back in 1972 and bought the album (I may still have it somewhere in my back room.) It was sung by Mammy to Bonnie, Rhett and Scarlett's daughter. It's a lovely lullaby.

Blueberry eyes and two lips, red ripe cherries,
Apricot cheeks, watermelon seed hair.
Sleep now my darling, my soon to be beauty
Sleep, dearest harvest in bloom anywhere.
Somewhere like you, your own true love is growing.
Soon he'll come riding to claim his sweet bride
Till then there's time, time to ripen and grow,
Go to sleep, cherries, apricots, close those blueberry eyes.

I know it's a long time since you wrote this, but hope your son still has his blueberry eyes.
