A Few Things I've Made

Here's a few pictures of some of the things I've been making lately. It's funny how you get to a point where all of a sudden you feel like you just need to get everything ready. It's almost like I can't relax unless I know everything is ready. This past weekend Justin and I went out and bought the last of the necessities-- a bassinet, wash tub, and a few other odds and ends. It was really nice to get all of that checked off the list.

Now I really am just waiting. I have more time, and am finding myself a bit more tired, so I've taken the opportunity this week to do some projects. I'm guessing this is what I'll be doing for the next 4 weeks. I have a few more that I want to do before I get here, and there are several other couples we know that are having their babies between now and August as well, so I might get around to making them a thing or two as well.

In case you didn't know already, Justin will be flying back home in the middle of June for the next phase of the hiring process for his new job. We still don't know when we'll be moving, but this is a good sign. The unfortunate thing is that it's about 10 days before I'm due. I was a little panicked about it, but luckily, my parents are awesome and generous, and my Mom is going to come out and spend the few days with me, just in case. I REALLY hope I don't go into labor while Justin's gone. I wouldn't pretty much be devastated if he couldn't be there. But I'm really glad that my Mom will be here just in case. It's a huge relief.

So here are some of the recent projects:

The blue and white blanket is made from two pieces of flannel, the green is flannel on one side, and a cotton homespun on the other.
For the monogram, I traced the name from my computer (in a font I chose) onto freezer paper, ironed it on, and backstitched along the lines. It worked really well on the flannel because the paper acted as a stabilizer, and the flannel stuck together well, so I didn't even have to use a hoop. If I were to stitch on the other one though, I'd definitely use a hoop to keep the two pieces of cloth from shifting. I really like how it turned out too. I stitched with a 15 gauge crochet thread.

I used the same thread to crochet a little border along the neckline of some onesies. It was super easy, and went quickly. It's just chains, slip stitched into the ribbing. It looks cuter in person too...

Justin doesn't think these are manly enough. I think they are. He's a baby for goodness sake. A little simple edging doesn't make you a girly man.
Note: It's important, if you were going to stitch like this along a neckline, that the pattern is flexible so that baby's head can still squeeze through the hole. This really limits the edgings you can do, but you really wouldn't want something very complicated right up in their face anyway...

The "Star-ghan"
Found on the ever-awesome Ravelry.com

Both afghans. You could make the starghan as big as you'd like, but I wanted a smaller one because:
a)I was just using up scrap yard, and made it on a whim. Not interested in investing in the yarn, and
b)I think this is more of a sit and play on blanket, or lay down when you're little, not a good shape for wrapping up and keeping warm.
So there you go. That's what I've been up to. Also keeping up with laundry and pet hair, and that's about the extent of my life right now. Jealous?
